AURORA Study
Client
Aurinia Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: AUPH) is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development of novel therapies for patients with rare diseases.
Project
Aurinia hired me to design and develop a recruitment website for their AURORA Lupus Nephritis clinical trial which was conducted worldwide. Working with a client in a regulated industry like pharmaceuticals, I had to ensure that the website met regulatory requirements, was compliant with industry standards, and passed institutional review board (IRB) approval. This required frequent communication and close coordination with the client on content and design, and ensured the project was completed on time.
Solution
For the website, I used Adobe Muse to visually design and build a responsive website that met the client's requirements. Muse built the website as pure static content, so there was no backend server or database to maintain, risk crashing, or experience any downtime at all. The website reached Aurinia's recruitment candidates across the globe quickly, and only for the cost of S3 storage and egress.
I wrote a custom interactive element using JavaScript and jQuery that allowed users to pre-qualify themselves and check their eligibility for the study by selecting "bubbles" with different conditions relevant to the study. Once two bubbles were selected, a modal would appear with a form for users to submit their information.
Various modals appear in the website for information on Lupus Nephritis, and a contact form. Modals were implemented using the izimodal library.
Result
The AURORA study set industry records as the fastest recruiting lupus nephritis trial in history. The recruitment website I created was instrumental in achieving this historic milestone.
This was my first and only project using jQuery and Adobe Muse. Now obsolete, Muse introduced me to the world of what-you-see-is-what-you-get (WYSIWYG) web design and development, and led me down the path of discovering Webflow, which would become my go-to tool for building responsive websites.
This was my first consulting project for an enterprise client, and I was hired again to build the recruitment website for their next study.
